La Jolla Playhouse's Spotlight On program for adults has been a such a wonderful experience to be in as an educator. I have had the honor of teaching musical theatre history and acting for adults. Each of these students pictured are from different backgrounds, however they all share passion for musicals. Each class that I have taught has been so rewarding because I leave so inspired by being around them. For many of them, this may be the first time considering themselves to be artists. Watching them grow in their self-confidence and to be a witness to their realization that they are artists, no matter their age, background or experience, has been one of the greatest joys in my teaching career. It is such a great reminder to me that your value as an artist is not in the products you create, but in the process of learning how you interact with the world. These students are talented, don't get me wrong. And, they motivate me to match their curiosity, willingness to take risks, and their commitment to never stop growing. Here's to my incredible Spotlight On students!! If you are interested in taking future classes, check out the Playhouse website to learn more.
